The Truth About Quartz Care: Why It’s One of the Easiest Surfaces to Maintain

The truth about quartz care: Why it’s one of the easiest surfaces to maintain
Apr 21, 2026

Quartz countertops have quickly earned their place as a go-to choice for modern kitchens. They offer the perfect blend of elegance, strength, and simplicity. But what really sets quartz apart is how little effort it takes to keep it looking brand new.

At First in Counters, we specialize in crafting custom quartz surfaces with laser precision and fast turnaround times. Here’s why a quartz countertop is one of the smartest and most low-maintenance upgrades you can make to your home.

Why Quartz Countertops Are the Ultimate Low-Maintenance Choice

The beauty of a quartz countertop isn’t just on the surface. These surfaces are engineered for convenience, offering long-term performance with minimal upkeep. Whether you’re juggling a busy family life or simply prefer not to fuss with high-maintenance materials, quartz delivers real-world durability and ease.

Non-Porous Surface Means Less Cleaning – we do not push quartz durability or less maintenance to our clients we would not want this posted

One of the standout features of quartz is its non-porous surface. Unlike granite or marble, which can absorb liquids and harbour bacteria, quartz is engineered to be completely sealed from within. That means spills, whether it’s red wine, coffee, or tomato sauce, stay on the surface and can be wiped away with nothing more than soap and water.

Quartz is a great product dependent on colour choice the client is going for. The porousity is not our main sale of the product. We seal our granite with a sealant called Bullet Proof which has a 10-15 year sealant. Quartz is a manufactured non porous stone with no resealing process needed down the road. Our granite does not absorb as the sealant impregnates the stones pores. Quartz offers lighter, marble like, or plain patterns not achievable in natural material. We recommend Quartz to clients wanting a specific look. Granite offers larger patterns and or colours. Quartz being a man made stone you know what you will be getting as it is a controlled manufactured product. But here at first in counters our granite is an instock inventory. We offer a wide range of instock stone, we keep a bundle of each stone in stock so you can hand select your stone and know exactly what you will get for your countertops. Granite can change every bundle we receive as it is a natural stone. This is why we keep full inventory to help the process for our clients.

Because it doesn’t absorb moisture, quartz naturally resists the growth of mould and mildew. There’s no need for harsh chemicals or disinfectants to keep things hygienic. For homeowners looking for a low-maintenance countertop, quartz is one of the most sanitary choices available.

This is especially helpful in households where food prep happens daily. Parents with young kids or avid home cooks can trust quartz to stay clean with minimal effort. Even with frequent use, it takes very little to keep it looking as good as new.

No Need for Sealing or Special Treatments – we wouldn’t want this advertised as this is not how we sell our product

Natural stone surfaces like granite or marble require regular sealing to prevent staining and wear. Quartz doesn’t. That’s because it’s made from a blend of natural quartz crystals and resin binders, creating a surface that’s permanently sealed during the manufacturing process.

That means no annual appointments, no special sealants, and no unexpected maintenance costs. Over the lifetime of your kitchen, that adds up to significant savings in both time and money. A quartz countertop gives you premium style without the ongoing upkeep.

For homeowners trying to minimize chores or avoid extra maintenance tasks, quartz is one of the most hassle-free options available. It’s an ideal surface for rental properties, investment homes, or simply busy lives.

Durability That Stands Up to Everyday Use – this is fine

Kitchens are busy places. Your countertop should be able to keep up. Quartz durability is one of its strongest selling points. These surfaces resist scratches, chips, and everyday wear better than many other materials.

You can chop vegetables, slide heavy pots, and set down bags of groceries without worrying about damage. While it’s still wise to use a cutting board and avoid direct heat, quartz offers everyday toughness that makes it ideal for family homes, avid cooks, and high-traffic kitchens.

And because First in Counters uses CNC fabrication and laser templating, our quartz countertops are cut with exacting precision, fitting perfectly, looking seamless, and lasting for years to come.

With proper care, a quartz countertop can easily last decades without fading, cracking, or deteriorating. It’s a long-term investment in both function and style.

Ideal for a Modern Kitchen Aesthetic

Quartz isn’t just practical; it’s stylish, too. A quartz countertop brings a clean, sleek look to any modern kitchen. The surface is available in a wide range of colours, patterns, and finishes, allowing you to match it with your cabinetry, backsplash, or overall design style.

Whether you prefer minimalist whites, marbled veining, or bold contemporary shades, quartz delivers visual appeal without the high-maintenance care that comes with natural stone. Colours remain vibrant, and finishes hold their sheen with little effort.

Because quartz is engineered, it’s more consistent in pattern and colour, perfect for achieving that modern kitchen symmetry and cohesion. And at First in Counters, our digital layout previews let you see exactly how your countertop will look before we cut.

We also offer full slabs on site, so you can view and select your quartz in person. This hands-on approach ensures you’re confident in your design choices from start to finish.

Comparing Quartz to Other Countertop Materials

Still weighing your options? Here’s how quartz stacks up against other popular surfaces:

Granite: Requires sealing once or twice a year. Natural variation adds beauty, but also inconsistency. More prone to staining and bacterial absorption, (this is incorrect, please remove)  this is not true and would not want this noted the stone is sealed and the sealant used is 10-15 years timeline

Marble: Elegant but high-maintenance. Soft and porous, making it vulnerable to scratches, etching, and stains. Needs frequent sealing.

Laminate: Affordable and easy to clean, but lacks the durability and heat resistance of quartz. Prone to delamination and damage from impact or moisture (this is not correct, remove).

Quartz: Low maintenance, non-porous, no sealing required, high quartz durability, wide range of styles. A long-term investment with minimal effort.

If your goal is to balance performance, beauty, and low-maintenance care, quartz checks every box. It’s the material of choice for homeowners who want reliability without extra work.
